Why the Flyers are a serious Stanley Cup contender

"How long are you guys here?" he asks the crew from Epix. "A month? So, misery. Pure misery for a month. They're all going to say it doesn't matter, it doesn't affect anything, it's all good. Welcome, guys."

''Mental,'' said Tortorella, who replaced Todd Richards after the Blue Jackets started 0-7 last season. ''We're a much better mentally equipped team, in handling things, in understanding what it is to be a pro. More businesslike.''

"Two years ago, we had the Capitals. It was fascinating to watch Barry Trotz kind of use the series and the show to set a new culture and vision for the Capitals. It was fun to be a part of it. He explained to me a month in advance the change he was trying to put in the culture in the locker room and on the ice. Low and behold, we kind of showcased it and exposed it."

It's worth noting that Zucker is from Las Vegas. When I spoke with him last week, it was clear that he's very excited that his hometown is getting an NHL team. It has also crossed in mind, obviously, what the expansion draft could potentially mean for him. Zucker married a Minnesota native and their life is there now, so I think there's no question the 24-year-old would rather stay put. But if he ends up in Vegas, clearly that wouldn't be a bad Plan B.

Just a season removed from a last-place finish in the Metropolitan Division - coach John Tortorella called 2015-16 ''embarrassing'' - the Blue Jackets have hockey's best record fueled by a roster light on stars but deep in key contributors.

The best, most useful NHL trades this year weren’t always the flashy, news grabbing stories you’d see in years past. In fact, a good handful on this list are trades that, at the time, seemed inconsequential.

''We have to stay so focused on what we have to do each day because we simply are not good enough to think we're OK here now,'' Tortorella said. ''We have to concentrate every day on what we're trying to do, and that's where I think we made the biggest improvement.''

Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky led the way against the Canadiens on Friday, stopping 36 shots in a 2-1 victory, including two acrobatic blocks using the toe of his skate. The previous night, Scott Hartnell was the star, getting a hat trick in a 7-1 win over the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins to take over first place in the league's toughest division.

Either way, the Wild are going to lose a decent player -- which is why, if I'm Minnesota GM Chuck Fletcher, I might take the bull by the horns as cheap jerseys the draft nears and ask Vegas GM George McPhee directly which Wild player he wants and then try to negotiate a trade rather than play the guessing game. It wouldn't hurt to try, anyway.

"Maybe now this is a real good thing,” Trotz said, when Radulov came back to the team in 2012. “Maybe now we get back a more finished product, a more mature person and player and maybe this works out really good for us. That's certainly what I'm hoping."

Despite a rocky start to the 2016-17 season, Frederik Andersen has locked down the Maple Leafs’ net. The deal to get him required only a few draft picks — including the 30th overall from this year that netted Anaheim an extra pick in the first round — was a pretty small price to pay for Toronto to lock up a starting goaltender for the near future.

And would there be any cachet for the Las Vegas GM in grabbing a homegrown product? Probably. But, on the other hand, the most attractive Wild assets to McPhee as he builds his team have to be their available defensemen.

In a true need-for-need deal, the Blue Jackets and Predators swapped a pair of under-23s in a trade that’s been a boon for both sides thus far.

Though the Ducks ultimately lost the trade by losing both their acquired assets for nothing in free agency, Hagelin was not a fit in Anaheim’s organization and his move helped spark one of the NHL’s best lines in years.

Nugent-Hopkins scores in OT to give Oilers win over Blues

It was Alexander Radulov, the Habs winger and, somewhat infamously, one of two ex-Predators whom Trotz suspended from a 2012 playoff game for breaking curfew. Radulov had returned home to the KHL after the incident, spending four years with CSKA Moscow, but came back on a one-year, $5.75-million deal for Montreal. Bygones were bygones with Trotz, so they caught up postgame. With 23 points in 29 games, Radulov has thrived for Montreal, a perceived risk paying dividends. Part of the reason for his success, he told Trotz, was having Weber around to aid the transition. It was also to his benefit that Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin, ;amid the course of due diligence, reportedly ;consulted Weber and received a strong recommendation.cheap NFL jerseys
''Pekka was phenomenal for us,'' Ellis said. ''I think it could have been a lot worse in that first period. He kept us in it. On the penalty kill, he made some big saves and some big blocks. If anything is going to be successful, you are going to need your goalie to be your best player. Tonight was no different. Pekka was great. We finally found a way to win a shootout.''
The OT goal frustrated St. Louis goalie Carter Hutton, who stopped 32 shots on his 31st birthday. It was his first start since Dec. 3, when the Blues lost to the Jets in overtime.
Pitlick fell to the ice with 4:26 left in the second period, favoring his left leg. He checked Jori Lehtera and his momentum carried him into the boards. He got helped off the ice and back into the locker room.Auburn Tigers Bulk Bandz Bracelet

Will Rockets match on Motiejunas? Upgrade for Nets?

Forward Ryan Anderson said he didn’t get much sleep, still recovering from a preseason trip to China and the grueling road schedule the Rockets have been on.

There were other issues for the Bulls in this game. Rajon Rondo scored just two points a night after racking up a triple-double against the Cavaliers in his best game of the season. The Bulls managed just nine assists while playing with little energy throughout much of the contest. But as much as Butler tried to shield his younger teammates from criticism -- saying "everybody" had to be better -- the Bulls' biggest flaw remains the same. The bench is not good, and it can't help a starting group that continues to pile up minutes.

Hoiberg is correct in saying his team will be in better shape once McDermott and Carter-Williams are back. Both players are better options than anything else the Bulls have at the moment. But to believe McDermott and Carter-Williams will save the day once they return is a stretch. McDermott will space the floor because of his shooting ability, but his defense is still porous. Carter-Williams is a solid defender, but he's a career 25.6 percent shooter from beyond the arc. Both players have flaws, but their flaws are easier to gloss over in context of the rest of the reserves.

Nor did people see James, one month after signing with Cleveland, show up hours early to Wade's and Union's no-phones-allowed wedding at the Chateau Artisan castle in Miami. "Of course Bron was the first one to arrive," says Union, who was escorted to the altar by Wade's sons. Awkward as it might have been for Uncle Bron to hit a dance floor populated by his former bosses -- including Riley, Heat owner Micky Arison and coach Erik Spoelstra -- Cheap jerseys he did it anyway.

But then Gibson added a caveat. Like Butler, he was a late first-round pick who wasn't supposed to have a long NBA career. Now he has become the heart and soul of a Bulls team that continues to surprise people all over the league. Gibson took the challenge of improving his game on a young team and ran with it.

Nance Jr. added with a smile: "If and when the time comes, cheap nfl jerseys, I will be ready."

So, no, Wade and LeBron will not deny that their own priorities -- family, friends, self-determination -- can sometimes diverge from those of their employers. But the problem is that most fans would rather be lied to. Like a headless Mickey Mouse answering a cellphone at Disneyland, NBA players indulge their humanity at the cost of a comforting fiction: that their public job always outranks their private life.

So Rose is getting comfortable in New York and the Knicks are playing well. That bodes well for both the Knicks' present and Rose's potential future in New York. But anything -- positive or negative -- can happen over the next three and a half months. So all discussions about Rose's long-term future with the club can wait.
